Arsenal's Proposed Agreement to Sign Serge Aurier Takes Twist
Toulouse full-back Serge Aurier's agent says the Ivory Coast international does not have an agreement to join Arsenal this summer despite the defender making claims to the contrary.
Aurier was filmed telling a Gunners supporter following The Elephants' defeat to Israel on Friday that he was set to move to north London, footage which the 21 year old subsequently posted on his official Twitter page.
However, the player's agent Stephance Courbis admits that while talks have been held with Arsenal, the World Cup-bound right back has not agreed a switch to the Emirates Stadium, with a rival English club also interested in his services.
"There is no agreement with Arsenal or anyone else," Courbis told RMC.
"There have been discussions with Arsenal in the past, but it's been a while since there has been any talks. To tell you the truth, we are even talking to another English club, so there is really nothing to act upon."
Should a deal not be sealed in the coming week, Arsenal would likely be forced to wait until after the World Cup to sign Aurier, who is part of Ivory Coast's 23-man squad for Brazil. Sabri Lamouchi's side face Japan, Colombia and Greece in Group C and have a realistic chance of reaching the knock-out phase.
Along with posting the video seemingly revealing a future move to the Premier League, Aurier has made no secret over his desire to move to Arsenal
Aurier told Eurosport: "I've never prioritised a club in England as even the promoted clubs are respectable.
"I will privilege the one that will show the most interest in me, that will give me the most game time. After that, you can't really say 'no' to Arsenal. It's a club with history, with a French manager, who has welcomed many French players."
Arsenal's pursuit of Aurier has been sparked into action by Bacary Sagna's decision to leave the Emirates Stadium after failing to agree a new contract.
Sagna is expected to join champions Manchester City this summer and become the fifth player to swap Arsenal for the Ethad Stadium in the last five years.
