Ash vs Evil Dead premiere: Bruce Campbell returns as the one-handed chainsaw wielding hero
Ash vs Evil Dead will make its grand premiere on Starz network in a few days with Bruce Campbell returning to reprise his iconic role of Ashley Williams, the one-handed ageing Lothario. After spending 30 years hiding from his horror-filled past, Ash will be forced to wield the chainsaw as evil strikes the world again.
Sam Raimi's gory horror comedy will debut on television on Halloween and fans are expecting the same slapstick humour and blood filled horror that they last saw in the Evil Dead movie series.
Starz has revealed the first four minutes of the highly anticipated TV series, which reveals the show to be promising and interesting. Take a look:
Here's the official synopsis: "Bruce Campbell returns as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its "Evil" grip."
During the New York Comic Con, Campbell expressed his optimism about the show's future. "We haven't done an 'Evil Dead' thing in 24 years; 1991 was the last time we shot 'Army of Darkness.' But the folks had never really let it go, the fans had kept clamoring for it. I go to conventions a lot and I hear it a lot. And we never had a definitive answer," he said during the Comic Con via Comicbook Resources.
He also explained why they went for a TV series instead of another sequel to the popular movie franchise. "The fans never let it go. We did a ['Evil Dead'] remake a couple years ago thinking that would satiate people but it only whet their appetite. They wanted more, they wanted Sam [Raimi], they wanted Ash. So rather than making a $200 million movie, because Sam Raimi is making big movies now — you know what I mean? — we're not going to say to Sam, 'let's make a million dollar event movie.' It's not going to happen. But [executive producer] Rob Tapert has worked continuously in television since then and so have I, so it's a world we understand."
Ash Vs Evil Dead will premiere on 31 October on Starz network. The series also stars Lucy Lawless as Ruby, "a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks" and Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, "an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash's loyal sidekick."
