Overview
China's men's field hockey team had a disastrous start to the 2016 Asian Men's Hockey Champions Trophy losing 5-1 in their opening game to hosts Malaysia. The Malaysian forward-line ran circles round China's defence, which would be a concern for the team management ahead of their clash with arch-rivals Japan.
Bowen Wang was the only player to show some fight, scoring China's only goal of the game in the 33rd minute and would look to build on his performance on 22 October. This game is a good opportunity for the Chinese to register points on board as they have a tough fixture list ahead with games against India and Pakistan to come.
Their opponents Japan too come into this clash bereft of confidence getting thrashed 10-2 in their opening game against giants India. The Japanese looked clueless on the field especially when confronted by the Indian attack allowing six penalty corners to be turned into goals.
Kenta Tanaka and Hiromasa Ochiai got on the score sheet for Japan, but it was a case of being a little too late. The team management like their opponents will know that this is a good opportunity to register their first win and put points on the table considering the competition they will face later.
Prediction
