Aston Villa will take on Manchester United in a Premier League clash at Villa Park on 14 August.

Where to watch live

Kick-off is at 7.45pm BST. Live coverage of the match will be available on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD.

Overview

Aston Villa come into this game after their 1-0 victory over Premier League newcomers AFC Bournemouth in the first match of the season. Rudy Gestede, who arrived from Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer came from the bench to score the only goal of the match.

The clash against United will be their first home fixture of the season and Tim Sherwood will be hoping his side can seal a victory over the Premier League giants on Friday. However, Villa will be aware of the quality possessed by Red Devils and will not be looking to be carried away.

Meanwhile, United enter this fixture after a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the season-opener at Old Trafford. Kyle Walker's first half own goal was the difference between the two sides as United sealed three points.

Last season, Louis van Gaal saw his side struggle in away fixtures as they managed just six wins. The Dutchman will be hoping his side can improve their away performances as United will be looking for their second win of the campaign.

What they say

Micah Richards: "They'll always be special games to me, coming up against United. I can't wait for this first one at Villa. I wish the game was right now. It will be a tough game. United will obviously be one of the favourites for the title and they have some world-class players. But we've recruited well. We have hungry and talented players in our dressing room and we'll be giving it everything to get the right result."

Michael Carrick: "The first game is so so important. I think we found that last season as we didn't really start well in the first game and straight away we were playing catch-up. So it was vital we won on Saturday. The performance wasn't what we would expect, really, it was not up to the standard we want, but it was all about the result and I'm sure the performances will come in the weeks ahead."
