Augsburg take on Liverpool in the midweek first leg of Europa League last 32 clash at SGL arena on 18 February (Thursday).

Overview

Augsburg have not enjoyed a good run in the Bundesliga this term as they sit in the 14th place with 21 points after 21 matches, seven points ahead of last place Hannover 96. They come into this fixture after losing their last tie 3-1 to German champions Bayern Munich.

Markus Weinzierl's side come into this fixture without a win in last four matches, which includes two consecutive defeats in the last two fixtures. Augsburg's goal scoring record has also been poor in recent times as they managed only seven goals in the last seven matches.

Liverpool on the other hand enter the European tie after crushing Aston Villa 6-0 at Villa Park. The latest victory comes after West Ham United eliminated the Reds from the FA Cup. Jurgen Klopp has already discussed about his side's chances of winning the Europe's second tier club competition.

It is for the first time that the former Borssuia Dortmund manager will return to Germany since taking charge at Liverpool. Klopp will be hoping for an away victory over Augsburg in the Europa League clash on Thursday evening.

Markus Weinzierl: "We're pleased that the game is finally here, and that we can concentrate on it 100%. It may perhaps be a slight advantage that I know Klopp. We have been following Liverpool closely but we will prepare for them in the same way as we do any other match."

Jurgen Klopp: "A few teams in the world can think about winning the Europa League and I think we are one. We don't have to say 'we have no chance' but if you look at the teams in the competition now it is like a little Champions League."
