Australian Open 2015: Easy win for Novak Djokovic, while Stanislas Wawrinka made to work hard
World No 1 Novak Djokovic has progressed to the third round of the 2015 Australian Open after defeating Andrey Kuznetsov at the Rod Laver Arena.
The four-time Australian Open winner had no trouble in the second round tie as he thrashed the Russian tennis player in straight sets, while dropping only five points in the match. The 27-year-old won 6-0, 6-1, 6-4.
Djokovic will face the winner of the second round clash between Go Soeda and Fernando Verdasco in the next round of the ongoing tournament.
Meanwhile, defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka also sealed a place in the third round of this year's Australian Open after his latest win over Marius Copil at Margaret Court Arena. The Swiss Tennis star had to fight hard to earn his victory in order to keep his hopes of winning the tournament alive.
The first two sets between Wawrinka and Copil were decided by tie-breakers and the 2014 Australian Open winner came out victorious on both occasions. He managed to seal the match by winning the final set comfortably as the final score was 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 in Wawrinka's favour.
"It was quite a tough match. Happy to get through, especially in three sets. Condition wasn't easy today. Quite hot. Really fast on the court," Wawrinka said after defeating Copil.
"And he was playing great. He was serving big, putting lots of pressure (on me). Wasn't playing my best tennis, but I'm happy the way I fight today and the way I did with the match."
Wawrinka will take on Jarkko Nieminen in the third round of the tournament. Kei Nishikori joins Djokvic and Wawrinka as the star players progress in the first Grand Slam event of this year.
