Australian PM : 'investigation into child sex abuse at churches'
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced a Royal Commission who will probe allegations of child abuse within the country's religious and state-run institutions. Following widespread reports of child abuse across the nation over several decades came to light. With many of the allegations were levelled at the Catholic Church.
Ms Gillard speaking at a press conference condemned the alleged abuse.
Child abuse victim Tommy Campion said all areas of abuse should be investigated.
The state of New South Wales has set up an inquiry in response to claims raised by a senior police officer. A separate parliamentary inquiry into church sex abuse is underway in the state of Victoria and the Royal commission will investigate on a national level.
