Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios says he has no interest in becoming world number one

Australia tennis superstar Nick Kyrgios has claimed he has no interest in becoming world number one as it is something which does not excite him at all. The 21-year-old, who is considered as one the rising stars of the sport, has been more in news for his off-field antics than for his achievements on the court.
Despite the controversies he has generated in the past, his girlfriend's sledge against Swiss Stan Wawrinka being the biggest of them all, a number of experts and former players feel that the Australian has it in him to reach the summit of the tennis world.
14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal recently came out and praised Kyrgios claiming that he has unbelievable potential and could become world number one, but such things do not cross the mind of the bad boy of the tennis world.
"Becoming number one doesn't really excite me at all, to be honest. It's not something I wish that I was. Whether I am 13 in the world, one in the world, 20 in the world, doesn't really bother me at all. It's just tennis. At the end of the day my perspective on the whole thing is very good. I don't really take myself too seriously. At the end of the day we're just playing tennis. It doesn't really matter. There are issues and other things in the world that I think about. It's just tennis, it's so small in the scheme of things", Kyrgios said, as quoted by Straits Times.
Kyrgios, who is currently in action at the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) event in Singapore, has no love for tennis and in the past reiterated his desire and commitment to bid adieu to the sport in the near future, claiming he will retire in the "next four-five years." The world number 13 is hoping to pursue a career in professional basketball once he retires from tennis.
