Bafta Television Award nominations 2017: The Crown, Fleabag and Stranger Things up for gongs
In their respective categories, Coronation Street and Game Of Thrones were both snubbed.
In the build-up to the ceremony on Sunday 14 May, Bafta have revealed their nominations for its Television Awards, which sees Netflix biographical drama The Crown, comedy series Fleabag and feature-length TV movie Damilola, Our Loved Boy leading the pack. The former received nods across five categories including supporting actor, leading actress for Claire Foy playing the Queen and best drama series.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the comedy star and writer tipped to be the next Doctor Who, is up for two awards. Her TV show Fleabag, based on her one-woman stage show, is up for scripted comedy, while she is in the running for female performance in a comedy programme. She is up against Olivia Colman, who plays her dad's girlfriend in the same show.
When it comes to international shows, yet another Netflix show made the cut, as Stranger Things picked up a nomination. However, it'll face fierce competition from The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Transparent and The Night Of.
Surprisingly, HBO's hugely-popular fantasy series Game Of Thrones – which arguably just had one of its most acclaimed seasons yet – missed out in the main awards, although it is up for the Virgin TV Must-see Moment Award, which is voted for by members of the public, for the Battle of the Bastards.
Speaking of snubs, Coronation Street was left out the Soap & Continuing Drama category, while Casualty, Eastenders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks are all in for a chance of winning the top gong. To see who else could win on the night, check out the Bafta TV nominations listed in full below...
