Around 100,000 Basques held hands to form a 123-km chain stretching across the northern Spanish region demanding a vote be held on the autonomous region seceding from Spain.
Demonstrators draped themselves in red-white-and-green Basque flags, linked their hands from the city of Durango to the city of Pamplona some 76 miles away.
The demonstration, organised by pro-independence group 'It's in Our Hands', echoed a similar one conducted in the Spanish region of Catalonia last year.
