Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition – First 10 minutes and positive reviews emerge online
The three-hour long extended cut became available to buy on Digital HD on Tuesday 28 June.
Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice's Ultimate Edition only aired in select cinemas around the US on Monday 27 June and became available to purchase on Digital HD the following day but already, overwhelming positive reviews of the extended cut have made their way online. Not only that but the first 10 minutes of the longer version have been released too.
While not much is different about the opening compared to the film seen back in March, there's still some deleted footage in the short intro. New clips include a few extra shots of the Thomas (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Martha Wayne (Lauren Cohan) murder towards the very beginning of the film and more glimpses of Ben Affleck speeding through the streets of Metropolis during the Man of Steel battle. Many DC Comics fans worldwide wouldn't need to watch the extended preview shared by Fandango as a large majority of them have already downloaded the edition and devoured it. Taking to social media, the verdict seems to be that the added 30 minutes of footage gives the film some much needed clarity and makes for a much better blockbuster.
One user wrote that the "Ultimate Edition injects a considerable amount of quality character drama and plot development back into the experience" while another even claimed that the extended cut "would've put the critics to shame".
Twitter users weren't the only ones to share their praise for the extended version of the film either. Collider's Steve Weintraub review stated the cut was "such an improvement" on the theatrical version "that [he] strongly suggests giving the film another chance" while Forbes' Scott Mendelsohn wrote: "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Ultimate Edition is indeed a genuinely superior movie.
"I would go so far as to say that I 'liked' this version of Batman v Superman," he continued. "It more-or-less works as a kind of uber-dark Elseworld that had no place being the kick-off movie for a mega-budget, mass-market cinematic universe."
Both the standard cut and ultimate edition of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on 19 July in the US. It will be released in the UK a little later on 1 August.
