Baywatch movie: Dwayne Johnson reveals Alexandra Daddario to play Summer Quinn on Instagram
Last year, Alexandra Daddario played Dwayne Johnson's on-screen daughter in disaster epic San Andreas. Now, the twosome are re-teaming for a red-cossie-filled adaptation of iconic television series Baywatch. The film is currently being shot and Johnson shared the first-look photo of the True Detective star's character Summer Quinn over Instagram.
Johnson sang Daddario's praises, writing: "She takes #BAYWATCH to another level. World fell in love with @alexannadaddario in #SanAndreas and I was so impressed by her chops and presence every day, that I had to have her "rep the squad" in our film. Just wait til you see her – and all our girls – kick ass and protect the bay. #GameOver#BaywatchBabes #CoverYourEyesBoys#BAYWATCH SUMMER 2017."
Joining Johnson and Daddario on screen will be Zac Efron, Sports Illustrated model Kelly Rohrbach, cast in the role of CJ Parker that Pamela Anderson made famous in the 1990s, and Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, best known in the US for her work on ABC show Quantico. Comedian Hannibal Buress and star of the original series David Hasselhoff will also be making appearances.
Seth Gordon, a well-versed comedy director after his work on Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief, will helm the "big, fun and R-Rated" picture, which will centre around an accomplished former Olympian named Mitch (Johnson) who squabbles with Brody (Efron), the leader of a cocky but superior team of lifeguards. The unlikely pair find themselves reluctantly teaming up to save the beach from environmental destruction at the hands of a ruthless oil tycoon.
Friday The 13th's Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the last draft of the script. Beau Flynn (San Andreas) and Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) will be producing alongside Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions. The movie currently has no official UK release date, but it will open in US cinemas on 19 May 2017.
