It is official: Beyoncé will perform at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards!

Show bosses have confirmed that the Drunk in Love singer, who leads this year's nominations with an impressive eight gongs, will take to the stage to give fans a "once in a lifetime performance".

After dropping her surprise self-titled album in December, there's a good chance the former Destiny's Child hitmaker will be treating fans to a medley of her new material and greatest hits.

August 24 will be the pop diva's fifth time at the VMAs. The last time that Jay Z's wife appeared at annual event was in 2011 when she announced her first pregnancy by throwing her microphone on the floor and undoing her embellished blazer at the end of her performance of Love on Top.

With the help of her unforgettable show, that year's ceremony pulled in a record-breaking 12.4 million viewers and became the most-watched broadcast in MTV history.

Later this month Queen B will go head to head with Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande and Lorde in the Best Female category and her impressive dance moves have also earned her a nod for Best Choreography.

Even if she doesn't take home any moonmen, it will still be a big night for the songstress as she will be presented with the show's biggest honour, the prestigious lifetime achievement accolade.

The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recognises the impact an artist has made on MTV culture and music. Previously recipients include Justin Timberlake, Madonna and Janet Jackson.

Beyoncé joins the impressive line-up which includes Usher, Maroon 5 and Ariana Grande. The 2014 MTV VMAs will take place at the Forum in Inglewood, California on August 24.
