Billboard Music Awards 2016: Justin Bieber steals the show with stellar performance and stunning theatrics
Justin Bieber delivered an impressive performance with two singles from his latest album Purpose at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on 22 May (Sunday). The 22-year-old singer performed Company and Sorry as he upped the theatrics with a psychedelic light show and pyrotechnics, which Beliebers will not forget for some time to come.
"Then he segues into Sorry. People are losing their minds in the fan section, and even the celebrities are singing along and genuinely look like they are loving this. The stage has gone a bit Wizard of Oz with emeralds everywhere as Bieber does the bogle," The Guardian's Lanre Bakare said, according to Romper.
The singer kept his ensemble simple in ripped jeans and a simple tee as he took to the stage to perform, which was appreciated by Beliebers with whom he has had a rocky relationship for some months. Moreover, Bieber himself must be relieved that his performance was appreciated after he was booed at the BBMAs in 2013.
On 10 May, the singer had said that he felt like a "zoo animal" while being constantly hounded for photos by fans. "It has gotten to the point that people won't even say hi to me or recognise me as a human, I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity. I realise people will be disappointed but I don't owe anybody a picture," the singer wrote on Instagram.
The singer won the Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist and Top Social Media Artist following his 12 nominations in 11 categories. The biggest winner of the night was The Weeknd, who won eight awards following his 19 nominations in 16 categories.
