Last night's Billboard Music Awards was draped in purple controversy before it began, after a petition was set up to stop Madonna from performing a Prince tribute. However, when the singer took to the stage in her glittering, lavender custom Gucci suit, complete with cane, the crowd quickly changed their tune.
This was not the night's only Prince tribute as Kesha arrived for her hotly anticipated performance in a Prince-inspired, show stopping, violet suit with matador detailing. Not everyone limited themselves to a mauve shroud in memory of the When Doves Crysinger, there was far too much lace and potential for nudity for that.
Britney slinked back to her heyday arriving in a slip of lace before taking to the stage in a collection of micro costumes. The star changed into a silver crop top and midi skirt when accepting the Millenium award, the only person to receive it since Beyonce and the late Whitney Houston.
Giving Britney a run for her money was Ciara, who left little to the imagination in a daring cut-out Phillipp Plein dress as she arrived on the arm of her fiancé, NFL star Russell Wilson. Indeed, metallics and cut outs were all over the red carpet last night.
