Manchester United extended their lead over rivals Manchester City by a further three points after they registered a late 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Monday night.
United, who were forced to play defensively after some excellent attacking play by Blackburn, finally took the lead in the 81st minute via Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia, who brilliantly placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the goal off a Rafael assist. The match was effectively over five minutes late, when winger Ashley Young found the nets with an excellent strike off a Valencia assist.
