Bodies of 3 adults and 2-month-old baby found 'shot to death' in Alaska murder-suicide
Four bodies were found in the Hampton Inn and Suites hotel in Fairbanks, Interior Alaska
The bodies of three adults and a two-month-old child were found shot to death in a hotel room in Interior Alaska. On Friday, 25 November, police were called to the Hampton Inn and suites, just off the Johansen Expressway in Fairbanks, at around 1.30pm local time, after the bodies were discovered by a member of staff.
The Fairbanks Police Department said in a statement that they were investigating the deaths of three adults and an eight-week-old baby girl. The victims were identified as 54-year-old female Linda Hutton, 22-year-old female Emily McDonald, 22-year-old male McKay Hutton and 8-week-old Teagan Hutton.
Officers responding to the emergency 911 call found a man crying in a stairway who directed them to the macabre discovery.
"The male directed the officers to a nearby room. Officers entered the room and found four deceased individuals. The deceased included three adults and one child. All deaths appear to have been caused by gunshots," the news release stated.
The police department added that there is no indication that drugs or alcohol was involved in their deaths and the man they had spoken to was not a suspect.
They continued to say they will investigate the motive for the killings, which took place in the largest city in Interior Alaska.
Deputy Chief Eric Jewkes told the Fairbanks News-Miner: "What we know is that there's a lot we still don't know. So until we can figure out and put some more pieces together we're not going to talk about a motive or possible scenario of what might have happened."
The news release continues to say that there is no current threat to the estimated 33,000 citizens living in the city.
In 2013, 41,149 suicides were reported in the US making it the 10th leading cause of death. Alaska has the highest rate of suicide per capita in the country at 21.8 per 100,000 – almost double the national average of 11.5.
