Bodies of Charlotte Bevan and missing daughter Zaani found in Bristol's Avon Gorge

The body of a baby girl believed to be the daughter of Charlotte Bevan has been found in Bristol's Avon Gorge.

Bevan walked out of St Michael's Hospital in Bristol with four-day-old daughter Zaani wrapped in blankets on Tuesday (2 December), sparking a hunt for the pair.

A walker found the dead body of Bevan earlier on and her daughter was located nearby later in the day.

An Avon and Somerset Police statement said: "We can confirm that the body of a baby girl has been found at the search site at the Avon Gorge.

"Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we are confident this is the body of 5 day old Zaani Tiana Bevan Malbrouck.

"The body of Zaani's mother Charlotte Bevan was formally identified earlier today having been found at the same site last night."

University Hospitals Bristol, which runs St Michael's Hospital, said Bevan discharged herself for "reasons unknown" and that it was launching an inquiry into the incident.
