Bolton Bomb Scare: Controlled Explosion Carried Out On Suspicious Package Found Near Bolton Town Hall
A road in Bolton has been closed off after a suspicious package was found near Bolton Town Hall
Greater Manchester Police were called to Queen Street at around 1150 GMT today and have evacuated nearby buildings as they investigate the package.
A controlled explosion has taken place and the Manchester Evening News claimed council officers, Bolton Library and Museum had been evacuated.
A bomb disposal unit remains at the scene.
A GMP spokesman said: "Shortly after 1150 GMT today, a suspicious package was found Queen Street in Bolton.
"A cordon has been put in place and a number of businesses in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Queen Street has been closed from Ashburner Street.
"In line with normal procedures, officers are assessing the package and the incident is ongoing."
