Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie divorce: Rumour round-up from across their relationship
As Pitt faces whispers about alleged weed use and anger issues, IBTimes UK looks back on the past ripples.
After months of avoiding divorce rumours, reports have now emerged that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are officially ending their marriage. According to TMZ, the former filed legal documents on Monday 19 September citing irreconcilable differences.
The actress-turned-director is allegedly seeking physical custody of the couple's six children: Pax, Maddox and Zahara (whom Jolie adopted before she and Pitt became an item, however he later formally adopted them) and Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne (the couple's biological children).
Now that their relationship has come to an end, IBTimes UK has looks back at some of the biggest rumours that came Brangelina's way from squabbles over selling some of their property to speculative "bedroom hugs" with the nanny...
Back in 2009, Daily Mail broke the news that Jolie was thought to have "flipped out" at Pitt after she saw him "on the bed in the twins' room rubbing the back of their female nanny". The publication even went on to suggest that the Tomb Raider actress slapped her now estranged husband across the face.
Of course, the biggest rumours have been in association with Pitt's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, mainly concentrating on Jolie's assumed "jealousy" if he were ever to get in contact with the former Friends star. However, those rumours were always quickly quashed.
In January of this year, it was feared that the couple's alleged marital woes were causing Jolie to lose a significant amount of weight, sparked by her thin figure seen on the red carpet of the Kung Fu Panda 3 premiere. Although, Gossip Cop later debunked the claims that Jolie's health was linked to strains in their relationship.
Back in March, it was reported that Jolie sacked the pair's child-minder after Pitt allegedly grew close to her. "[Angelina's] paranoia grew even further when she saw him fresh out of the shower wrapped in just a towel, getting some juice while the nanny was also in the kitchen with a big smile on her face. That was the final straw for Angie," a source previously revealed to Radar Online.
In June, Jolie supposedly wanted to sell the couple's Chateau Miraval property in France in order to focus on her political career in the UK, which caused problems in their relationship due to Pitt not being willing to give up the estate. His reasons being that he had just renovated the home and that it is the base for the production of their personal brand of pink wine.
Back in July, Gossip Cop debunked an OK! Magazine report that suggested the Fight Club actor and his wife were living separate lives.
"They've lost their passion. It's really sad," a source had told the publication. "Romance seems to be at the bottom of their agenda, below career and kids. [If the couple] actually had time to sit down and discuss what's happening ... they'd say the same thing: 'We can't carry on like this.' Their only hope would be if they took a big break from their work to focus on each other."
Earlier this month, Pitt had been linked with his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard, with Jolie reportedly jealous of how close the pair had become on set. However, Gossip Cop later debunked the rumours, stating that there was no truth in reports which claimed "[there's] a good chance that it [Oscar nomination] might leave Angelina Jolie completely envious if not regretful that she hasn't had a well-received film in years". The same rumours were also spun with Pitt and Now You See Me 2 actress Lizzy Caplan while they worked on the same Second World War-set drama film.
More recently, surrounding the news of the impending divorce, TMZ alleged that the reasons behind the couple's split was "a conflict over the kids, substance abuse and anger". The publication was also supposedly told that there was no "third person" involved in the divorce decision and that her file was solely spurred on by Pitt's questionable interactions with their children together.
