Bradford Batman Unmasked as Takeaway Driver Stan Worby
The 'Bradford Batman' has revealed his true identity to the world after CCTV pictures of him delivering an alleged criminal to a police station went viral.
There were rumours about who the Bradford Batman could be, with MP George Galloway even taking to Twitter to declare: "Contrary to rumours sweeping Gotham, I am not the Bradford Batman, However, I take my hat off to him and wish him luck in the future."
However, rather than being the mysterious masked avenger fighting crime for the people of Bradford, he has been exposed as Stan Worby, a 39-year-old Chinese takeaway driver who was helping a friend turn himself in.
Worby told the Daily Telegraph the reason for him wearing the costume in the early hours of the morning was not that he was out a superhero but that he was returning from Bradford City's Capital One Cup final game against Swansea at Wembley stadium, where he had gone in fancy dress.
Worby said: "I got a call from Danny while I was at Wembley and he said, 'can you run me to the cop station?' But as I was in London I couldn't.
"I told him as soon as I was home I would run him to Bradford central police station. We got back about 1am and I picked Danny up in a minibus at 1.30am.
"I got some strange looks when I got to the cop station though. One policeman looked at me and just laughed.
"I said to the policeman, 'I deserve a medal, I'm a caped crusader.'"
He told ITV's DayBreak: "At the end of the day it was a practical joke, just between me and Daniel."
Frayne has charged with handling stolen goods and fraud offences and is due to appear before Bradford magistrates.
