Brazil: Football referee brandishes gun during match dispute
Alarming footage was recorded on 26 September in Brazil, as a referee pulled out a gun during a football match. The referee, Gabriel Murta, is now set for a psychological assessment before potentially having his ability to officiate games revoked.
Murta is also a policeman, and he reportedly brought the weapon onto the pitch in an act of self-defence. The incident happened during an amateur league match in Brumadinho, between Brumadinho and Amantes da Bola.
Before he pulled out his firearm, Murta was kicked and punched by an Amantes da Bola player. Fortunately, after being held back by one of his linesman, Gabriel Murta had the sense not to use his gun in anger.
