British acts lead the nominations at Grammy Awards
British star Sam Smith is leading the Grammy nominations with nods in five categories.
The singer is up for Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year, Best Pop Performance and Best New Artist.
Writing on Twitter as the announcements were made, he wrote: "Four Grammy nominations and I haven't even got out of bed yet." Hearing of a fifth nomination he added: "5 GRAMMY NOMINATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is happening??"
Performing for the taped special A Very GRAMMY Christmas, the singer said he hopes to come home with the prestigious music award. "'I'm scared," he said. "It's like Christmas Eve right now for me. I'd love my album to get that platform so I don't know. Fingers crossed."
Smith faces competition for Record of the Year from Miley Cyrus for Bangerz, Ariana Grande for My Everything, Katy Perry for Prism, Coldplay for Ghost Stories and Ed Sheeran's X. He'll be battling it out for Song of the Year for Stay with Me with Iggy Azalea's Fancy, Sia's Chandelier, Taylor Swift's Shake it Off and Meghan Trainor with All About That Bass.
Smith is also up against Iggy Azalea, Brandy Clark, Haim, and Bastille for the Best New Artist award.
