Bromley machete attack: Teen in court after Boxing Day knife fight at Intu shopping centre in Kent
A teenage boy is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (29 December) accused of clashing with a rival boy in a machete fight that caused Boxing Day shoppers to flee Intu shopping centre in Kent.
Scenes of chaos unfolded on Saturday (26 December) when the two youths' row escalated into a knife fight at the shopping mall, formerly known as The Glades. Armed police were called to the complex at about 3.45pm after fears there could be a gunman on the loose.
They found a boy with a head injury and discovered two knives, one of which was described as a a two-foot long machete. A 16-year-old teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Bromley Youth Court on Monday and admitted possessing an offensive weapon, namely a machete. He has been bailed to appear at the same court on 5 January.
A second 16-year-old boy was charged on Monday with violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon, and common assault by beating. He will appear at the court today.
