Bull Taming Festival in India - In Pictures
Jallikattu, the traditional sport of bull taming, is played during the Pongal harvest festival in Tamil Nadu, southern India.
As a bull is released into the ring, a man tries to cling on to its hump. Riders who manage to hold on for a certain distance win a prize.
Animal rights activists have tried to ban the practice, but there are big differences between Jallikattu and Spanish bullfighting. The bulls are not killed and are rarely harmed, although the Indian "matadors" are often seriously injured or killed, as they do not use any weapons and the bulls' horns are sometimes sharpened.
