California Metrolink crash: Multiple injuries as commuter train derails after hitting truck in Oxnard

A commuter train has derailed after crashing into a truck in California, leaving dozens injured.
Images from the scene in Oxnard, about 60 miles (96km) north west of Los Angeles, showed several carriages of the Metrolink train having been flung off the train tracks.

Metrolink tweeted:
VC Line 102 to Los Angeles is stopped between Oxnard & Camarillo due to striking a vehicle on the tracks. Updates to follow.

The collision came as the train hit a truck on the tracks just before 6am local time.
The vehicle caught fire as a consequence of the impact. Emergency services rushed at the scene.
Fire Department Capt Mike Lindbery said the truck driver fled after the crash but was later taken into custody.
He tweeted:

A Metrolink spokesman earlier told the LA Times at least 30 people were injured.
The train was travelling from Ventura County to Los Angeles when the crash occurred, near East 5th Street and South Rice Avenue. It is believed no one was killed in the accident.
