Can Grey's Anatomy survive without Derek and Meredith? Fans react on Twitter post Patrick Dempsey's shocking exit
The last episode of Grey's Anatomy which aired on Thursday, 23 April, left fans in shock as their favourite character Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey was killed off on the show.
As suspected earlier, the neurosurgeon ironically was involved in an accident and died of a brain-bleed due to complications. Now, fans of the all-time favorite couple of Derek and Meredith Grey, are wondering how the show would survive without the lead characters, which revolved around their lives of the two doctors.
Patrick Dempsey in an interview has spoken about his exit from the popular medical drama series.
He said, "Things happened very quickly, where we were like, 'Oh this is where it's going to go.' It just sort of unfolded in a very organic way... It happened very quickly."
Executive producer Shonda Rhimes also released a statement following the episode to console fans.
She wrote, "Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our 'McDreamy.' Patrick Dempsey's performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true of what young women should demand from modern love. "
"His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire Grey's Anatomy family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning," she added.
However, fans of the hit show were not happy with the death of Derek and vented their ire on social media. Check them out below.
