Overview
The lowest ranked team to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics, Canada will be competing in their seventh Olympic games, with their best finish coming at Beijing 2008 where they stood in 10th place.
While their Olympic record might not be too bright, they have been a major force in Pan American hockey, winning a number of medals in the Pan Am Games and Pan Am stuff competitions. Scott Tupper, Mark Pearson and Matthew Guest will be key players on the outfield, while David Carter is one of the finest shot-stoppers on the planet.
The defending champions, Germany come into this tournament on the back of consecutive gold medal wins and will be looking to make it three in a row at Rio 2016. Head coach Valentin Altenburg has chosen a mix of players, including five Olympic gold medalists from London and two former winners of the Federation of International Hockey (FIH) Men's Player of the Year award in Tobias Hauke and Moritz Furste.
The duo are considered to be among the best players in German hockey history and will be key if they are to win a treble of gold medals.
