Canary Wharf evacuation: 'Suspicious vehicle' prompts security alert in London financial district
Canary Wharf has been put on lockdown after a 'suspicious vehicle' was parked near South Quay DLR station. Workers were evacuated from nearby offices after the security alert along Marsh Wall on the Isle of Dogs, near London's financial district. Police rushed to the scene and ushered crowds away from the scene, setting up a cordon. Officers has since stood down and a good service is reported on the Docklands Light Railway, which operates at South Quay.
Earlier this month, City of London workers were evacuated in London's other financial heartland after a gas leak at Throgmorton Avenue prompted fears of a fire. London Fire Brigade was called to the street, off London Wall and near to Deutsche Bank and HSBC offices, on Friday (1 April) to reports of gas in the air. Workers at the German bank were sent home as City of London Police and National Grid engineers attended the scene before the leak was identified and fixed.
