Carrie Fisher accidentally reveals spoiler about Star Wars 8
Johnson claims the movie's starting point will 'break the tradition'.
Contrary to fans's expectation, Star Wars Celebration 2016 released little to no information about Episode VIII. However, Carrie Fisher (General Lei Organa) misjudged one question and gave away a minor spoiler about Han Solo in the space-action thriller series.
"What do you know of the period between the end of Return of the Jedi and the beginning of The Force Awakens?" The panel moderator Warwick Davis asked her.
"Han's funeral," Fisher responded (via Geek Feed) but she soon realised the goof-up and corrected herself saying "The old one, oh," and guided fans through Princess Leia and Han's patchy relationship and their son Ben Solo who later turned towards the Dark Side and became Kylo Ren. "We also had a child who turned out to be Hitler," she joked during the event.
Director Rian Johnson revealed a few interesting details about the Force Awakens sequel as well, including the movie's starting point. "For the first time this movie is going to start where the last one left off. It was a break from tradition." he said during the convention.
He also teased an interesting opening scene between Rey and Luke Skywalker after they first meet on the deserted island. "That final scene in VII, I want to see what happens next," he added via Variety.
With information from both Johnson and Fisher, it is safe to assume that there will be a Han Solo funeral in between Episode VII and Episode VIII and Rey will lead the 8th sequel of the space-action odyssey along with Mark Hamill's Luke.
The director also added that the upcoming movie would focus on the characters. "The second film is where we zoom into the characters, getting to the heart of them and challenging them."
Scheduled to release on 15 December 2017, the movie stars Mark Hamil, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis and Lupita Nyong'o.
