Twitter users have been posting funny cat pictures to mock Turkey's energy minister Taner Yildiz, who blamed a cat for causing power cuts that disrupted local elections.

Votes had to be counted by candlelight in parts of Ankara and other Turkish cities, leading to allegations of election fraud on social media.

When energy minister Taner Yildiz blamed an errant cat for wandering into a power station and knocking out the lights, Twitter responded with cat pics and barbed humour using the hashtag #catlobby. If they keep this up, prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan may have to ban Twitter again.
