The first look of Melissa Benoist as Supergirl has just been released with the actress in full costume.
The costume is designed by Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who was also responsible for the outfits of CW's superheroes Arrow and The Flash.
"In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past," said Atwood, "but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today."
According to reports, Mentalist actor Owain Yeoman will star as the villainous Vartox.
The Wrap reported that Yeoman will debut the character of Vartox in live action, beginning with the show's pilot. In the show, Vartox will emerge as an alien convict hiding on Earth for over a decade, before challenging newcomer Supergirl to ascertain her identity and power.
The official series synopsis released by CBS reads as follows:
Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was destined to be.
The show also stars Jeremy Jordan as Toyman, Dean Cain and Helen Slater, Chyler Leigh as Kara's sister Alex, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw/Cyborg Superman, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Laura Benanti as Kara's Kryptonian mother Alura and True Blood star Mehcad Brooks as an older rendition of Jimmy Olsen.
The much awaited series will premiere on CBS from September 2015, and the first trailer is rumoured to air by mid-April.
