Chad Johnson Dropped from Miami Dolphins after Domestic Violence Arrest
NFL star Chad Johnson has been dropped from the Miami Dolphins following his arrest for domestic abuse.
The wide receiver, better known as Chad Ochocinco, was charged with battery and domestic violence after his new wife Evelyn Lozada accused him of head-butting her during a heated argument.
Johnson allegedly attacked the reality star outside their Miami home after she confronted him about a condom receipt she found in their car's boot.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Lozada, a star of VH1's Basketball Wives, is said to have run to a neighbour's house to call the police.
She had a 3in cut on her forehead, police said, but Johnson told them that she had head-butted him.
The 34-year-old sportsman signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in June in desperate bid to save his ailing career after he was released by the New England Patriots.
Days before his arrest the Dophins' head coach, Joe Philbin, said Johnson's place in the team could be at risk because of his behaviour, in reference to him using profanities in press interviews.
Johnson's contract termination was announced via the team's website and Twitter. If convicted on the domestic abuse charge, Johnson faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
According to his defence attorney, Adam Swickle, a no-contact order has been issued that prevents Johnson from contacting Lozada.
