21:31: Terrible five minutes for Celtic. Zapata shot takes an unfortunate deflection off Emilio Izaguirre that takes the ball completely out of Forster's path. Five minutes later the Celtic shot stopper does wonderfully well to keep out a Mario Balotelli free kick, but the ball falls to Muntari who taps into an empty net. Hugely unfortunate for Celtic.

Goal! Chelsea 1-2 Basel (Streller)
21:23: As his former club struggle to break down Celtic, Kevin Prince Boatang has opened his European account with Schalke with a well taken goal to give the Bundesliga side a comfortable lead.
Goal! Schalke 2-0 Steua Bucharest (Kevin Prince Boatang)
21:18: Anything Ronaldo can do, Messi can do too. The Argentine completes his hat trick after passing the ball into the net from 15 yards out. Ajax immediately have the chance to score a consolation goal from the spot but Victor Valdes makes a smart save.
Goal! Barcelona 4-0 Ajax (Lionel Messi)
21:16: Mohamed Salah equalises at Stamford Bridge! Basel's talisman stuns Chelsea with a very well taken effort to even things up in west London.

Goal! Napoli 2-0 Borussia Dortmund (Lorenzo Insigne)
Goal! Chelsea 1-1 Basel (Mohamed Salah)
21:11: The goals are absolutely flying in across the continent now. Arda Turan capitalises on some more slack defending from Zenit to restore Atletico Madrid's lead while Gerard Pique gets on the end of a terrific ball from Neymar as Barcelona begin to turn on the style against the Dutch champions. Schalke have also taken the lead in Germany.
Goal! Barcelona 3-0 Ajax (Gerard Pique)
Goal! Schalke 1-0 Steaua Bucharest (Uchida)
21:07: What a finish from Walcott! Just as Marseille were beginning to enjoy a spell of domination the former Southampton man connects with a spectacular volley after a poor defensive clearance from Morel. The ball arrows into the top corner giving Mandanda absolutely no chance.
Goal! Atletico Madrid 2-1 Zenit St Petersburg (Arda Turan)
Goal! Marseille 0-1 Arsenal (Theo Walcott)
21:05: Marseille beginning to turn the screw here, dominating the Gunners at the minute. 20:52: Neil Lennon will be delighted with his side's first half performance at the San Siro. If Milan were ever there for taking at home, tonight is the night.
20:47: We're back underway across Europe and Arsenal have been given an early scare. Rod Fanni wanders into the box unmarked and gets on the end of a ball put in from the right. The full back connects with a sweet half volley but fires just wide of Szczesny's goal.
20:42: Oh, and to add to Dortmund's woes, Mats Hummels was forced to limp off towards the end of that half. When it rains, it pours, etc.
20:40: Not many goals to report so far but all the action has taken place at the Stadio San Paolo where Jurgen Klopp has been sent to the stands and Roman Weidenfeller has been sent off for Borussia Dortmund. A Gonzalo Higuain header gave the hosts their opener, leaving last season's finalists with a tall task in the second half.
Chelsea haver struggled to create much against Basel at Stamford Bridge but a fine goal from Oscar, who seems to enjoy scoring at Europe, ensures they go into the break ahead. Celtic are holding a weakened Milan side at the San Siro while Marseille have managed to keep Mesut Ozil and Arsenal quiet in France. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have taken the only other goals so far tonight against Ajax and Zenit St Petersburg respectively.
20:35: Half time whistles have been blown across Europe.
20:33: Dortmund shot stopper Weidenfeller shown a straight red card after being judged to have handled the ball outside of his area. He joins Klopp in the stands as a dreadful half for Dortmund draws to a close.
Red card - Roman Weidenfeller (Borussia Dortmund)
20:31: With what was essentially the last kick off the half, Chelsea take the lead at Stamford Bridge. Luiz plays the ball to Lampard who picks out Oscar with a fine pass who drills the ball home on the spin. The only highlight of a very poor first half. Half time.
Goal! Chelsea 1-0 Basel (Oscar)
20:29: N'Koulou booked for Marseille after a clumsy challenge on Giroud.
20:27: Atletico gets their Champions League campaign off and running as Miranda connects with a great near post header. Not a Zenit defender in sight as he connected with the ball.
Goal! Atletico Madrid 1-0 Zenit St Petersburg (Joao Miranda)
20:24: Mesut Ozil being marked very carefully by Marseille and his struggling to get on the ball at the minute. Giroud a little isolated up front now. Meanwhile after Klopp's meltdown Marco Reus has a greatn opportunity to level things against Napoli but he drags his effort wide.
20:17: Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has been sent to the stands agfter blowing his top and screaming in the face of the fourth official after Higuain's opener.
20:16: The man Arsenal missed out on opens the scoring for Napoli as he gets ahead of his marker to direct his header into the back of the net.
Goal! Napoli 1-0 Borussia Dortmund (Gonzalo Higuain)
2014: Ouch. Per Mertesacker takes a big boot to the face as he stoops to head on Mesut Ozil's corner kick. Unfourtunately, the referee doesn't seem to care.
20:11: Liverpool loanee Pepe Reina is called into action between Napoli and Dortmund. Robert Lewandowski gets in behind the Italian defence on the inside left but his effort comes off the thigh of the Spaniard.
20:07: Lionel Messi typically gets the first goal of the evening against Ajax. The Argentine strikes a beautiful free kick that comes off the post and in, his 60th Champions League goal. Incredible.
Goal! Barcelona 1-0 Ajax (Lionel Messi)
20:04: David Luiz has endured a somewhat sloppy start at Stamford Bridge. Gave the ball away three times in quick succession, irking his manager somewhat.

19:59: Lorenzo Insigne of Napoli comes close to opening the scoring in Italy against Dortmund after his effort flashes just wide of the post.
19:55: Arsenal having some early luck floating balls over to the right where Walcott is finding space with ease. Ramsey, Wilshere and Ozil have already launched such efforts, but to no avaIl so far.
19:52: Ramsey impressively picks out Walcott who has darted into the box from the right, but the England man can only get the faintest contact with the ball. Easily collected by Mandanda.
19:51: Celtic also given an early scare as Mario Balotelli fires off a stinging effort at the San Siro that needs a smart save from Fraiser Forster.
19:49: Szczesny called into action early at Marseille. The much-fancied Valbuena curls the ball in from the left and Gignac beats Koscielny to the ball and gets his effort on target. Bright start from the home side.
19:44: Minutes away from our eight kick offs this evening. We'll have updates from all of them as we go along.
19:40: Unbelievably, tonight's clash between Barcelona and Ajax will be the first time two of Europe's most successful sides have met in a competitive game.
19:31: Charlie Mulgrew replaces the injured Joe Ledley in centre midfield for for Celtic alongside Scott Brown. Despite the daunting prospect of the San Siro, Milan start with a side severely weakened by injuries, but will look to Mario Balotelli to inspire them.

Mohamed Salah, who scored against the Blues in the Europa League last season, starts for Basel.
19:25: Here's team news again if you missed us earlier. For Arsenal, Ozil and Giroud start along with Theo Walcott in front of a midfield of Wilshere, Flamini and Ramsey. Mertesacker returns at centre half. Mathieu Valbuena starts for Marseille.
19:16: Arsene Wenger earlier this week pointed out the threats of Mathieu Valbuena and Dimitri Payet in the Marseille ranks, but he also may have an eye on 20-year-old Florian Thuavin, who could come off the bench for the Ligue 1 club this evening. Here' s a bit more the man crowned Ligue 1's young player of the season last campaign.
19:13: Having eliminated Manchester United in the group stages of this competiton a few years ago, Basel are no strangers to English opposition. Chelsea may be favourites this evening, but they will have to be mindful of the threat of Mohamed Salah, who scored goals against the Blues and Tottenham in last season's Europa league campaign. Here's a bit more on the 21-year-old who has scored 17 goals in 24 appearances for Egypt.
19:10: Elswhere, Gonzalo Higuain makes his Champions League debut for Napoli against last season's runners up Borussia Dortmund, leading the line in front of a very strong side selected by Rafa Benitez.
19:04: Mourinho takes charge of his first game in Europe as Chelsea boss since September 2007, a 1-1 draw at home to Rosenborg. The Special One walked out on the club two days later but he's back to ensure they get their Champions League campaign off to a good start after last season's early exit.
