Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov eager to fight Isis 'scum' in Syria on Putin's command
Ramzan Kadyrov promises he will also personally join the fight if necessary.
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has said that his troops would be "happy" to fight Islamic State (Isis) "scum" in Syria if they receive orders from his close ally, Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Taking to his Instagram account, Kadyrov posted that troops stationed in Chechnya would be happy to be sent to the Middle East and claimed that he would personally join the fight if needed.
According to a translation by Associated Press, the message read: "International terrorism ... I would be happy and proud to immediately go to Syria to fight the scum".
On fighting alongside Putin, he added. "The enemy must be destroyed in his den before his tentacles reach your land."
In February this year Kadyrov claimed that special intelligence forces from his republic are fighting IS in the Middle East. He added that he set up a spy network to target the extremists and aide the Russian air bombardment of Syria.
Russia has been assisting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with air support since September 2015 - particularly in the embattled city of Aleppo.
Kadyrov won re-election as Chechnya's leader in September this year, with almost 98% of the vote.
In the past Kadyrov has repeatedly described himself and his troops as "Putin's foot soldiers," promising his forces are "ready to march in the front row" against IS - an organsation he believes is funded and armed by the West.
