Chelsea defender Wallace has joined Brazilian club Gremio on loan until June 2017, the Premier League side have confirmed.

Wallace, who is yet to make his debut for the Blues, completed his move to Stamford Bridge in 2013 but was unable to secure a work permit, joining Inter Milan on a season-long loan where he was limited to just four appearances.

During the 2014-15 season, the 21-year-old became the latest in a long line of Chelsea hopefuls to join Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem on loan where the Brazil Under-20 international won a first-team role. This season, the full-back spent six months with Serie A side but after failing to make much of an impact, has returned to his homeland on an 18-month deal.

In what is expected to be a busy month on the loan front, Chelsea have already sanctioned a handful of deals in the first week of the January transfer window.

John Swift, 20, has extended his loan at Brentford until the end of the season. The England Under-21 international initially joined the Bees on a month-loan deal in October but has impressed at Griffin Park.

Patrick Bamford has returned to Stamford Bridge after his season-long loan spell at Crystal Palace was cancelled. The 22-year-old is expected to find a new club this month, with Middlesbrough, where he enjoyed an excellent campaign last season, reportedly front runners to land the striker.

Christian Atsu has also returned to the club following his spell at Bournemouth. Bertrand Traore, 20, meanwhile has been urged to leave Stamford Bridge on loan rather than sit on the bench by Blues scout Piet de Visser.
