Chelsea: Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos suggest he will consider summer move
Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has left the door open for a move away from the French capital at the end of the season. Chelsea are expected to make the signing of a new centre-half a priority during the summer transfer window, with club captain John Terry set to leave Stamford Bridge after the club seemingly opted against renewing his contract.
After failing to sign John Stones from Everton last summer, the Blues turned their attention to Marquinhos, only for PSG to swiftly dismiss their ambitious offer for the Brazil international. While he has already added a third Ligue 1 title to his collection since arriving from Roma in 2013, the Brazil centre-half has repeatedly refused to rule out a move to the Premier League, having revealed it was a pleasure to learn Manchester United were interested in him in 2015.
While his comments could be seen as an attempt to gain leverage in contract talks with PSG, Marquinhos refused to rule out a move away from Parc de Princes, explaining he will consider his next move at the end of the season.
"My future is in Paris? At the moment, yes. But I can only speak of the present," Marquinhos was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
"Everyone knows you have to have a reflection at the end of the season. We'll talk about the objectives of the club and of me personally. Right now I try to remain professional.
"I try to work to win my place and to have playing time. We'll see how the season will finish. Afterwards, there will be a reflection."
Marquinhos has also attracted the attention of Barcelona, with Mundo Deportivo reporting in February the La Liga giants will rival Chelsea and United for the defender's signature, with a centre-half also a priority for them.
PSG captain Thiago Silva was not surprised to learn of the growing interest in his international and club teammate, admitting last month there has been enquiries.
"His situation is difficult. Marquinhos is a player with great qualities who would be able to play in any team in Europe. That's the reason why Barca and others have already enquired," Silva said, as quoted by Sport.
