Chelsea Ready to Spend on £20m Turkish Winger - Report
Rafa Benitez blames tiredness for 2-2 draw against Tottenham
Chelsea are keen to bring Atlético Madrid winger Arda Turan to Stamford Bridge in the summer, with Roman Abramovich ready to trigger his £20m release clause. The Express believes the Blues will beat Arsenal and Liverpool to the Turkish international.
"Arda wants to play for another club, to live a different experience. We are working now to make it happen. Atletico know what our intention is. If all goes well, Arda will leave the Madrid club at the end of this season. There are only five teams in Europe who can bear the cost of the transfer," Ahmet Bulut, the player's agent was quoted as saying late last year.
Chelsea are also believed to have completed a deal for Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schürrle but the BBC states the German's transfer has been held up while the Bundesliga club search for a replacement.
Turan, meanwhile, has had a good season with the Vicente Calderon club and his four goals and four assists from 28 La Liga games have guaranteed Champions League football for Diego Simeone's side next season.
Atlético Madrid, incidentally, have been linked with a surprise £40m move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguay international has a big fan in Simeone, who may need a central striker if and when Colombian Radamel Falcao confirms his exit.
Benitez on Draw against Tottenham
Interim Chelsea coach believes the late equaliser in Wednesday evening's 2-2 draw against Spurs was because his players were tired. The home side led twice on the night, through goals from Oscar and Ramires but Emmanuel Adebayor and Gylfi Sigurdsson rescored a point for Andre Villas-Boas.
"We had the chances on counter-attack to score the third goal and finish the game. We scored the first one and then we gave them the opportunity to counter... it was the same... we didn't do it and then they were pushing... some players tired. In the middle also they had too many bodies, people that could hold the ball," the Spaniard told the club's Web site.
