Overview
Jose Mourinho is set to welcome arch nemesis Arsene Wenger to Stamford Bridge on Saturday in a clash that can have a major impact on both teams in the Premier League. For Chelsea, nothing but a win will do after their disappointing start to the season that has seen them tottering just above the relegation zone in 17th place.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are still looking for their first win over the Blues in the Premier League in seven matches and Wenger will be keen to build on his team's win over the reigning league champions in the Community Shield before the start of the season.
Mourinho could revert to John Terry for the visit of the Gunners after dropping his skipper for their Champions League game against Maccabi Tel Aviv. His defence has been woeful this season, and the Portuguese manager will hope that his team can turn a corner on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the north London club are coming into this game on the back of a disappointing performance against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. Wenger will be keen to put that behind and continue their good run in the Premier League.
The Frenchman, who shares a rocky relationship with Mourinho, will be keen to get his first league win over the Portuguese manager. A win will come as a big boost to both teams for the season ahead.
Another major factor will be the return of Petr Cech to Stamford Bridge. It is the first time he is returning to his former club, where he enjoyed immense success. He has already tasted success once in the Community Shield and will be keen to continue the run.
Stat of the Match: The Blues are unbeaten in their last seven league and cup games against Arsenal
What Managers Say
Jose Mourinho: "I want to isolate the match from every context. Our fantastic record against Arsenal doesn't matter. It doesn't matter they haven't beaten Chelsea for seven matches in the Premier League. It doesn't matter they beat us in the Community Shield. It's just Chelsea against Arsenal. It's a match we want to win. If it's a pre-season friendly match it's the same, I want to win."
Arsene Wenger: "There is no deep damage [after Champions League defeat], we can repair that and it's time for us to focus on the Premier League, where we are on a good run."
