Construction workers descend on Canary Wharf to protest at Crossrail HQ
IBTimes UK filmed the demonstration and spoke to a Unite official on the scene.
More than 100 construction workers have staged a morning demonstration outside Crossrail's Canary Wharf headquarters on Friday (25 November).
The protest was as a result of pay dispute between the parties and organisers are calling for "meaningful negotiations" with Crossrail in a bid to end the industrial row. Some of the demonstrators were from the Union of Construction Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT) and Unite trade unions.
"It's a demonstration because they refused to talk to the unions in regards to a second tier payment," Guy Langston, a regional Unite officer for Crossrail told IBTimes UK.
"Health and safety is an abomination so these lads have taken it upon themselves to come out and have day of action."
A spokesperson for Crossrail said: "We are aware of this demonstration by Unite the union who are seeking to secure a bonus payment from Crossrail's principal contractors."
