Cristiano Ronaldo spends millions on Greek island for agent Jorge Mendes as a wedding present
Most newlyweds receive a kitchen full of domestic appliances or hundreds of pounds worth of gift vouchers on their big day. However, if you happen to be the agent of football ace Cristiano Ronaldo, you might be permitted to set your sights a little higher.
According to Spain's Mundo Deportivo website, the Real Madrid star has brought his agent Jorge Mendes a Greek island as a wedding present. Although the island has not been named, industry experts at Move Noticias claim that it potentially set him back anything between €3m (£2.1m, $3.8m) to €50m.
Mendes married his partner Sandra Barbosa in Porto, Portugal on 2 August 2015 at a star-studded ceremony. Among the 400 guests attendance were Sir Alex Ferguson, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. Ronaldo himself looked dapper in a black suit and tie as he took on the role of best man. The pair go back many years: Mendes is credited with bringing CR7 to Manchester United in 2003, where he evolved into one of the world's biggest football stars.
Mendes, who has brokered more than £1bn of transfer deals in his career, is not the only one to benefit from Ronaldo's generosity in recent weeks. In July, the 30-year-old star showed off his chivalrous side by tracking down an American fan that had lost her phone during a recent weekend holiday in Las Vegas.
When the footballer and fan, Austin Woolstenhulme, came face to face, she says he made the meeting even more memorable by treating her and her pals to a night out in Sin City. "Bad news is I lost my phone two days ago. Good news is Cristiano Ronaldo found it. Better news is he took us to dinner last night," she captioned an Instagram snap of her and the 30 year old.
