Police have launched a murder investigation following a shooting during a mass brawl in Croydon, south London.

Officers said the 28-year-old victim was gunned down after fights broke out at Brigstock Function Room in Thornton Heath at about 5am on Sunday (27 November).

The victim took himself to a south London hospital but died on Tuesday evening.

Next of kin have been informed but he has yet to be formally identified. A post-mortem will be held on Thursday.

In 2013, police had warned the venue – a nightclub, bar and event centre – had "an exceptionally serious history of attracting problems over the course of number of years".

Attempts by IBTimes UK to contact the owners were unsuccessful.

The Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) are now investigating and have appealed for anyone who was at the Function Rooms, or in the vicinity of Brigstock Road, on Sunday morning to get in touch. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4868.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visiting www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
