Dancing With The Stars season 22 finale: New Mirrorball winner Nyle DiMarco's incredible journey
Another exciting season of Dancing With The Stars came to an end on Tuesday as the heated finale for season 22 crowned a new champion. Nyle DiMarco, the deaf model of America's Next Top Model fame, won the hearts of the judges and audience with his incredible style and inspiring journey to take home the much-coveted Mirror Ball trophy.
"This is such an amazing feeling," said Peta Murgatroyd, DiMarco's partner on the show, after the duo edged out co-competitors Paige VanZant and Ginger Zee to grab the trophy. "This whole thing has been so incredible because of this man. I owe everything to him," she added.
After DWTS pro Murgatroyd took to the stage for one final time with her celebrity partner DiMarco, the duo was showered with applause from the teary-eyed spectators. For their last performance on the reality dancing show, DiMarco and his partner signed each other a thank you before dancing off to a killer fusion of cha cha and tango.
Following the new DWTS winner's incredible performance, one judge honoured him with a special message in sign language. "Thank you for showing us your beautiful heart when you dance," Inaba signed recapitulating the deaf model-cum-dancer's inspiring journey on the show. A visibly emotional DiMarco was touched by Inaba's message as he embraced his partner Murgatroyd.
DiMarco had been vocal on the show about his journey and the consequent struggles. "The deaf community really goes through a lot, and I'm really trying to explain how to raise a deaf child, but we keep being ignored," he said earlier. Recalling his emotional journey as a dancer, he revealed: "I'm happy that we were able to make it happen."
Having faced some stiff competition in season 22 of DWTS, the winning pair recalled their incredible journey on the show with reverence. "I'll always look back on this and think, 'I would do that again in a heartbeat.' It's incredible," Murgatroyd told US Weekly.
