Denis Suarez agent denies holding talks with Barcelona
Denis Suarez's agent has denied that the Villarreal midfielder is looking to leave the club in the summer. Suarez, who played for Barcelona's B team in the 2013/14 season, had been linked with a return to the Nou Camp after Barca boss Luis Enrique expressed his admiration for the player.
The 22-year-old has scored three goals in 24 league appearances for Villarreal this season and has also been linked with a transfer to Serie A club Napoli. He joined Marcelino's side on a four-year deal in the summer after spending the 2014/15 season on loan at Sevilla.
"If I'm honest, we've had no contact with the club (Napoli). Nor with Barcelona, as has been said," Suarez's agent Felix Gende was quoted as saying by FourFourTwo. "Denis Suarez is focused on this season with Villarreal, a club where he feels very welcome and with whom he still has a long contract. Villarreal are involved in a lot of competitions and it's still premature to talk about his future."
High praise
Suarez has been a standout performer for Villarreal this season, with his technical ability and versatility winning high praise. "[Suarez] has been doing really well. At Sevilla he did not get playing time, and at Villarreal he is doing very well," Enrique was quoted as saying by ESPN in December. "He could be an interesting player."
The midfielder caught the eye for the Yellow Submarine in their Europa League round-of-32 triumph over Napoli last month, scoring a late winner in the first leg at El Madrigal.
Gende did not completely rule out Suarez leaving Villarreal in the summer transfer window. "When the season finishes, we'll see what happens. It will then be the moment to talk about the future of the player," he said. Villarreal are fourth in the La Liga table and hold an eight-point lead over fifth-placed Sevilla.
