No penalties tonight, then. Chelsea and Preston have done the business in extra time, sending Leicester City and Bournemouth crashing out of the competition at the first hurdle.
Chelsea and Preston join Reading, Liverpool, Leeds, Norwich, Arsenal and Newcastle in the draw for the fourth round. Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs looking to join them tomorrow; eight more fixtures take place on Wednesday. Join us for that.
And Chelsea may have just wrapped this tie up. Marcos Alonso cuts in from the right and drills a cross into a cluster of players. The ball is knocked up high in the air and Zieler can't get a strong punch on it, only getting it as far as Fabregas who is stood 10 yards out. He takes a quick touch and smashes another into the roof of the net.
Reading despite being reduced to 10 after Tyler Blackett's red card, have doubled their lead away to Brighton and in style. On the counter, the away side swarm forward with goal scorer Quinn turning provider, cutting a ball back for John Swift who drills one home.
Bournemouth are back in their tie too after Lewis Grabban converted a penalty, after Max Gradel's free kick was blocked by the arm of Ben Pringle.
What a strike from Cesar Azpilicueta. Wasilewski nods away a Chelsea cross but it only gets as far as the Spaniard, who is waiting just outside the box. He watches the ball drop and hits an immaculate dipping volley on goal that flies into the top corner and gets his side right back into this contest.
It;s been a lively first 45 minutes of action this evening. Here are the scores at the half-way point.
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Arsenal
Newcastle United 2-0 Wolves
Leicester City 2-1 Chelsea
Leeds United 0-0 Blackburn Rovers
Everton 0-1 Norwich City
Derby County 0-1 Liverpool
Brighton 0-1 Reading
Bournemouth 0-1 Preston
Okazaki has another! It's another scrappy finish but again the Leicester striker has punished some slack Chelsea defending, nipping inside his man before hitting his turf into the ground that squirms through Begovic. Azpilicueta throws himself to hack the ball clear, but it's already comfortably sailed over the line.
Two in as many minutes from Newcastle! Against the side who beat them in this exact same fixture at the weekend, they have taken control. Matt Richie opened the scoring, finding the bottom corner with a cool finish after a neat one-two on the edge of the box, before Yoann Gouffran added another screamer to his collection, smashing a volley into the roof of the net after meeting a cross in from the right.
Moments after Leicester have a penalty appeal turned down after some calamitous defending from Cahill, the home side have the lead! David Luiz, Cahill and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic are all culpable here, they all stood rooted to the spot as Okazaki nips in yards out from goal to nod an accurate header into the corner of the net.
Nottingham Forest almost punish Arsenal for overplaying the ball inside their own box as Bendtner nips in before laying the ball off for Kasami. He surely has to test the goalkeeper, but fires wide. Shocking effort.
Moments later Chuba Akpom finds room to take a shot on goal, but sees his effort palmed over the bar.
15 minutes from kick-off in tonight's games, here's another look at the much-changed Arsenal team to take on Nottingham Forest.
Martinez, Maitland-Niles, Holding, Gabriel, Gibbs, Elneny, Xhaka, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Reine-Adelaide, Akpom, Lucas
Subs: Macey, Bielik, Sheaf, Mavididi, Willock, Zelalem, Da silva
Loris Karius skipped Germany's Olympics campaign to concentrate on nailing down a first-team role at Liverpool. A broken hand suffered just weeks before the start of the new season derailed those plans temporarily however, but now the former Mainz goalkeeper is ready to make his debut tonight. Here is what Jurgen Klopp had to say about him on Monday.
In the moment when we signed him, you can imagine we thought 'he's not too bad' and that's how it is. He was a really, really, really strong Bundesliga goalkeeper.
"It's a sign if at this age you are already a goalkeeper in the Bundesliga. I saw his way, from a very, very bad start at Mainz when nobody really wanted him, to an outstanding goalkeeper. That's what I was interested in. I spoke to him, then took him, that's what we got - he's a really good goalkeeper," the German coach explained.
The pick of tonight's fixtures is a clash between Premier League champions Leicester City and Chelsea. You can follow all the action at the King Power Stadium here.
Two former Gunners start against Arsene Wenger's side this evening. Henri Lansbury, who cut ties with the Gunners four years ago, and Nicklas Bendtner, back in English football after a two year absence, feature in the Nottingham Forest starting XI.
Changes everywhere for Arsenal. Maitland-Niles slots in at right-back while there are starts for summer signings Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez. Reine-Adelaide starts in the Mesut Ozil role. Arsene Wenger has predictably named a very young bench which includes Gedion Zelalem and Chis Willock.
Nicklas Bendtner is back in English football. After having his contract at Wolfsburg terminated 14 months ahead of schedule, the 28-year-old signed a two year deal at the City Ground on the final day of the summer transfer window.
A lack of football has delayed his introduction to the first team but, as sometimes happens in football, fate has drawn him opposite the man who brought him to these shores.
I'm really looking forward to a great match in a sold-out stadium. I'm sure there's going to be a great atmosphere. The focus is purely on getting the win for Nottingham Forest. It'll be a tough game against a strong Arsenal side but we are very confident.
"I will celebrate if I score tomorrow night but I won't go crazy. I have a lot of love and respect for Arsenal as a club. Montanier and Wenger are two managers who want to play football in the right way. It should make for an entertaining game.
Team news: Liverpool
After coming within touching distance of the trophy last season, Jurgen Klopp plans to name a strong XI this evening. Roberto Firmino was a late withdrawal from Friday's Premier League clash with Chelsea but returned to training on Monday and could be in contention tonight. Klopp did indicate however that Mamadou Sakho is still not ready having not played for the club since last April.
There could also be a debut for Loris Karius this evening.
Team news: Arsenal
Gabriel could make his first appearance of the season. The centre-half picked up an ankle injury during pre-season but Arsene Wenger spoke confidently of the Brazilian returning this evening. Olivier Giroud missed the weekend victory over Hull City after suffering a toe injury in the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain, while no risks will be taken with Aaron Ramsey this evening. Wenger is expected to shake-up his starting XI, which should mean starts for Rob Holding, Lucas Perez and Chuba Akpom.
Team news: Nottingham Forest
It's the return of the king tonight. Nicklas Bendtner could line up against his former club with Forest manager Philippe Montanier telling the press on Monday the Dane is now ready to start for his new club. The Championship side will be without Britt Assombalonga however, along with Thomas Lam and Damien Perquis.
Six Premier League clubs are in action this evening as the EFL Cup third round gets underway. Clubs at the top end of English football traditionally view this competition in a somewhat disparaging light; a chance to award some youngsters with a first-team run out or to throw fringe player the chance to get some minutes under his belt. Arsenal were one of the many clubs to opt for that approach last year and suffered a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday.
While away trips up and down the country during the week don't paint the most glamorous picture, Liverpool battled their way through the early rounds last season and were rewarded with a trip to Wembley. A penalty shoot-out saw them miss out on what would have been their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp. With no European football this season, Liverpool might fancy another cup run to keep themselves occupied until the weekend.
There are eight fixtures in all this evening, all getting underway at 7:45pm. We will bring you updates from each of them throughout the night with team news coming up shortly.
