Donald Trump IQ estimates by seven AI models include some damning scores @therealdonaldtrump/Instagram

Donald Trump's own Truth Social AI has rated his interview performance as only 'average to somewhat below average', giving the former US president an 'IQ impression' of roughly 95 to 105 – far short of the 'very stable genius' image he has long promoted.

The verdict came as a YouTuber asked seven artificial intelligence models to estimate Mr Trump's IQ from recent interview transcripts, producing no official measurement but a series of unflattering responses, with estimates ranging from around 80 to 110.

For context, Mr Trump has long made his intelligence a political selling point. In 2018, he wrote on Twitter that he was 'like, really smart' and 'a very stable genius'. More recently, he told a mid-term election rally in Vandalia, Ohio, on Saturday, 3 October that he was 'very intelligent', a 'high-IQ person' and had 'among the highest IQs anywhere in the world.'

The latest assessments do not settle that argument. They are AI-generated impressions based on how Mr Trump speaks in selected transcripts, not clinically administered IQ tests, and two of the seven models declined to give a number at all.

That caveat matters, because an IQ score is supposed to come from standardised testing, not a chatbot's reading of political rhetoric.

How the Donald Trump IQ Test Was Carried Out

The experiment was conducted by YouTuber David on his channel, I Ask AI. He said he pulled transcripts from Mr Trump's recent interviews, fed the full file into seven AI models and asked each one for 'a straight-up number'.

'I mean, this video was kind of just begging to be made, and that's why today I'm letting seven AI models estimate Trump's IQ,' he said. 'I pulled the transcripts from his recent interviews, and I'm feeding the whole file into all of them and asking each one of them just to give me a straight-up number.'

The prompts reportedly asked the models to be 'clear, straightforward, unbiased' and to offer 'no sugarcoating.' The results, however, say as much about how large language models interpret speech patterns as they do about Mr Trump himself.

Truth Social AI Gives a Sobering Assessment

Perhaps the most eye-catching response came from Truth Social, the social media platform founded by Mr Trump. Its AI placed his apparent verbal reasoning and intellectual functioning at 'average to somewhat below average', with an 'IQ impression' of roughly 95 to 105.

'Based only on this transcript, I'd place his apparent verbal reasoning and intellectual functioning around average to somewhat below average, roughly an IQ impression of 95 to 105,' the model said.

It added that Mr Trump showed 'quick associative thinking, confidence, political instinct, and an ability to dominate the exchange.' But it also said his answers were 'repetitive, loosely structured, evasive, and often internally inconsistent', while accusing him of relying on superlatives and making unsupported claims with certainty.

This was not, however, the lowest score in the set.

The Lowest and Highest AI Estimates

DeepSeek, the Chinese generative AI chatbot launched in July 2023 by businessman Liang Wenfeng, gave the lowest estimate at 'around 80 to 85.' It said Mr Trump 'rambles, repeats himself, dodges direct questions' and 'contradicts plain facts.'

'Vocabulary is simple, logic is loose, and he leans hard on bragging, grievance, and dominance,' DeepSeek said. 'He does show cunning timing and rhetorical aggression, so he isn't helplessly slow. As an analytical intelligence impression, though, it's a low average at best.'

Google Gemini was only slightly more generous, placing Mr Trump in the 85 to 95 range. It described his vocabulary as 'elementary' and said he relied endlessly on basic words such as 'great', 'horrible', 'beautiful' and 'stupid'.

At the other end, Grok, the AI assistant developed by Elon Musk's xAI and integrated into X, estimated 95 to 110. It said Mr Trump's speech was 'simple, repetitive, and concrete', but acknowledged a practical talent for persuasion.

'What he does have is sales instinct,' Grok said. 'He knows which line lands, when to pivot, and how to make a messy situation sound like a win. That is real skill. It is not the same thing as being sharp.'

Meta AI also landed in the low-average bracket, estimating roughly 85 to 95. It said Mr Trump appeared 'confident' and 'street-smart', but not 'intellectually sharp', pointing to short, circular sentences and repeated superlatives.

Why Two AI Models Refused To Score Trump

ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot declined to assign a numerical IQ estimate. ChatGPT said the transcripts did not offer a 'defensible basis' for determining an IQ figure, though it described Mr Trump's verbal performance as 'highly uneven' and noted occasional 'sharp tactical thinking.'

Microsoft Copilot also refused to provide a score. Interview transcripts cannot measure reasoning under controlled conditions, memory, processing speed or the other components IQ tests are designed to assess.

The divide among the models is clear. Five offered estimates, two refused, and even those that gave numbers framed them as impressions rather than verified results. Wild as some of the language was, none of it amounts to proof of Mr Trump's actual IQ.

Mr Trump, meanwhile, has continued to present his cognitive performance as evidence of his fitness for office. He has said he 'aced' three cognitive tests, a claim that sits beside AI chatbots informing him that their estimates place him below the level he claims.

Whether voters treat these AI verdicts as online entertainment or as another round in the long-running argument over Mr Trump's intellect, the former president is unlikely to be impressed. His own platform's chatbot, after all, did not give him the kind of score he says he deserves.
