'Don't worry. I won't tell anybody': Nick Carter accused of raping Dream's Melissa Schuman when she was 18
"I wanted to believe it was some sort of nightmare I was dreaming up," Schuman wrote in her personal blog.
Melissa Schuman has come forward to accuse Nick Carter of raping her when she was 18 years old.
Taking to her personal blog, Melissa Explains It All, the singer, now 33, details the horrifying 2002 incident in a post titled, "Don't worry. I won't tell anybody".
Melissa, who is best known for being in the 90s girl group Dream, says she first had a conversation with the Backstreet Boys singer over the phone as a courtesy while her representatives from her record label were present during the conversation.
"I took the phone call. He was very polite and the conversation was quick," she says in the post.
Melissa ran into Nick, now 37, a few years later, with the two cast in the same TV movie.
"I was no longer in a relationship and now single. My first impression of him, he was kind and charismatic so when he asked if I'd like to hang out with him and his friend at his Santa Monica apartment on our off day of shooting, I said yes. I invited my roommate to come with me," she says.
When she and her friend arrived at Nick's apartment they were provided with liquor and after some time, she was asked to come to his office to listen to songs he was working on, says Melissa.
While listening to the songs, Melissa says they kissed and he "was aware that I was a virgin and that I held to religious conservative Christian values. I was vocal about this. Everyone knew about this, including those who repped me."
She goes on to say that Nick brought her into a bathroom adjacent to his office and proceed to kiss her and unbutton her pants. Schuman added that she told Nick to stop but "he did not listen".
"He told me, 'don't worry. I won't tell anybody'," says Melissa.
When someone in the house knocked on the bathroom door, Nick allegedly took her to another bathroom and asked her to perform oral sex on him.
"I declined, he was upset. He told me, 'I did it for you and it's only right you do it for me," says Melissa.
She continues, "So when he placed my hand on his penis my thought was the only way to get out was to get him to finish what he had started. That's where I saw myself, my reflection, watching myself do something that I was sicken by. Watching myself be assaulted, forced to engage in an act against my will."
Next, Melissa claims Nick took her to the bedroom and "threw me on the bed and climbed on top of me".
"I told him that I was a virgin and I didn't want to have sex. I told him that I was saving myself for my future husband. I said it over and over again. He whispered in my ear as to entice me," Melissa says.
Nick allegedly replied, "I could be your husband."
Melissa claims Nick then proceeded to rape her.
"It was done. The one thing I had held as a virtue had been ruined," she says. "I went limp, turned my head to my left and decided I would just go to sleep now. I wanted to believe it was some sort of nightmare I was dreaming up."
