Drake has competition as father Dennis Graham releases r'n'b album Kinda Crazy
Graham, believed to be in his 60s, has travelled with Drake on rapper's Summer Sixteen tour.
Drake will have to share the spotlight for once as his father Dennis Graham is releasing his own music compilation. Clearly inspired by his son's success, Graham is releasing a r'n'b album titled Kinda Crazy and has issued a teaser for the lead single's music video.
Paying homage to r'n'b music of the 1980s, Graham, who is believed to be in his 60s, sits on a large throne with smoke billowing on the floor around him and candles gently flickering in the room. In another scene, Graham has dinner with a couple of younger friends while a woman seductively plays with her hair. The crooner even gives a nod to Drake's OVO brand by wearing the label's owl symbol on a chain.
According to TMZ, Drake has given his father's album the seal of approval paving the way for Graham to contact Jamie Iovine, producer and son of music executive Jimmy Iovine, about securing a release through Apple Music. It appears the talks were also fruitful as Graham told his Instagram followers: "I want all my family and friends to check out my single and video which will be debuting on TMZ tomorrow it's here @applemusic thanks to everyone who made it possible."
The song Kinda Crazy originally debuted in March 2015 featuring vocals from singer TanyaLee. Lyrics include: "It's kinda crazy but I feel you underneath my skin/... It's where my obsession began." At the time, it was claimed Graham planned for his hip-hop superstar son to join him on the song but the One Dance hitmaker was forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
Graham is no stranger to the world of music as he made a cameo in the music video for Drake's 2013 single Worst Behavior. Fans of Drake, 29, would be familiar with Graham who regularly travels with the Canadian rapper and is currently accompanying Drizzy on his Summer Sixteen tour.
The pair are known to have a close relationship despite the fact Graham left the family home when Drake was a child. Opening up about their bond, Drake told GQ in 2012: "Me and my dad are friends. We're cool. I'll never be disappointed again, because I don't expect anything anymore from him. I just let him exist, and that's how we get along. We laugh. We have drinks together. But I spent too many nights looking by the window, seeing if the car was going to pull up. And the car never came."
While they may have a good relationship now, Graham is sometimes too busy on travelling adventures to listen to his son's music. Recalling a conversation after Drake released his album Views in May, the rapper told Late Night with Jimmy Fallon: "I was like, 'What's your favourite song?' And he was like, 'Drake, man, I'm gonna be honest with you, my service is not too good out here'."
Graham has built a strong following of his own online and boasts 179,000 Instagram followers. Some photos show the singer hanging out with the likes of Iggy Azalea, DJ Khaled, Usher, Snoop Dogg, French Montana and Kelly Rowland. Graham's album is expected for release at some point in August.
