Drake launches first OVO womenswear clothing line to rival Kanye West's Yeezus collection
After conquering the rap charts, Drake has set his sights on the fashion world. The Hotline Bling MC is set to release his first women's clothing line under his unstoppable brand OVO, giving fellow hip hop star-turned-designer Kanye West a run for his money.
Drake's collection will arrive at OVO's Toronto store on 21 November, before being made available online from 28 November. The capsule collection is strictly casual, consisting of a range of basics including leggings, fitted crop tops, baggy jogging bottoms and caps, all with the brand's famous owl logo. The line's stand-out pieces appear to be a fur-trimmed black satin puffer jacket and velour letterman jacket with "October's Very Own" emblazoned on the back.
Released just in time to make many Christmas wish lists, the womenswear line will undoubtedly enjoy similar success to that of the men's range, which consists of sweaters, t-shirts, jackets and hats, as well as other merchandise such as phone cases and ashtrays. The womenswear line has been well-received so far, a contrast to the reaction to West's Yeezus collections.
Following his New York Fashion Week show in September 2015, the All Day rapper was flooded with criticism, with many comparing the pieces to rags and even "slave" clothing. Prices for Drake's collection are yet to be revealed, but the average cost for a jumper in the men's range is priced at a minimum of $100 (£65) while the velvet bomber jacket costs $398.
Drake has also extended his fashion portfolio outside of OVO, collaborating with Nike to release the Air Jordan 10 trainers in September 2015. The 29-year-old looks set to have a few busy months in store, with the rapper rumoured to be planning a New Year release for his fourth studio album, Views From The 6. A teaser from the OVO camp appeared to confirm the release date as 6 January 2016, although no further details have been released.
