Earth Day is celebrated annually on 22 April. The environmental movement took shape in 1970 in America, when 20 million people marched on the streets to show their support for a sustainable and healthy environmental future for the planet.
Earth Day is celebrated each year in efforts to create awareness and propagate increased support for environmental protection and safeguarding our planet. The organisers of the movement have announced their most ambitious goal yet to mark the 46<sup>th year of the movement — to plant 7.8 billion trees over the span of the next five years.
